Self-proclaimed “party pop” homies of New Jersey, Boxed Wine, are notorious for their placement in JCPenney commercials. In their single “Gotta Love”, they continue their sync pop tradition, mining the radio-friendly catchiness of Passion Pit but choosing to ignore the Never Trust a Happy Song appeal of Grouplove. Chris Nova sings, “I gotta love/It’s been a long time/But I’ve had enough” as the girl across the room fends his attention off, leaving him to empty the contents of his red solo cup and drown his sorrows in buoyant guitar riffs. Though the arrangement comes across a little too chipper initially, the hook-heavy tune is definitely one that will penetrate your television screens.
