Boston Marathon: Bomb Sniffing Dogs, Spotters on Roofs Before Explosions

The video below implies that, before the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon, Boston police received a bomb threat that included the bombs’ approximate location as being near the “finish line”. Even so, the police failed to find the bombs before they exploded.

Perhaps the bomb detection unit was informed too late to make a difference. Perhaps they underestimated the legitimacy of the threat and failed to make a sufficient effort to find the bombs. Perhaps they were merely incompetent.

It’s easy to play Monday-morning quarterback and criticize the police. Still, legitimate questions remain: Why weren’t the runners and other participants in the Boston Marathon at least warned and possibly diverted from the finish line? What if they’d just moved the finish line 50 yards closer to the starting line? Yes, it wouldn’t be a “complete” Marathon, but on the other hand . . . .
