Bollywood Flops With Great Chartbusters | Top 10 (2010-2018)

Posted on the 03 July 2018 by Themoviean

Bollywood is known all over the world for movies with the routine song and dance, great music, and item numbers. In fact, whenever people from a different country are asked about Bollywood, their opinions rush straight to the music, song, and dance, and the rich colours present on the screen.

There have been a certain amount of movies, however, which have failed to make any relevant collections in the box office. This could either be due to bad marketing, poor performances or a below par story.
Nonetheless, the songs in the movies, and their official soundtracks, have gone on to become huge hits. Here are a few such movies.

Kites (2010)
Anurag Basu directed this movie, with Hrtihik Roshan, Barbara Mori, Kabir Bedi and Kangana Ranaut as part of the lead cast. The movie opened strongly, but fell majorly short of its actual commercial target. Both critically and commercially, the movie did not fare well either. The performances were bashed, but the set pieces were praised. 'Zindagi Do Pal Ki' and 'Dil Kyun Yeh Mera' are two great tracks Rajesh Roshan composed for the film. His soundtracks were uniformly praised throughout, by both critics and audiences.

Raavan (2010)
This epic adventure film, directed by Mani Ratnam, starred Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles. Even though the film flopped in the box office due to its bad acting and story, the music of the movie did not disappoint, as it was composed by none other than the legend A.R. Rahman. 'Beera' and 'Behene De' were two hits delivered by this movie.

Anjaana Anjaani (2010)
Siddharth Anand was in the directorial seat for this film. It starred Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead roles. In order to make a unique romantic film, Anand approached Advaita Kalita (a novelist) to help him with the script for the film. Even though the idea tanked with the Indian audience, the chemistry between the leads, and the music of the film was highly praised. Vishal-Shekhar employed their creative skills in order to create a great score for the film. 'Tumse Hi Tumse' and 'Tujhe Bhula Diya' are a couple of hits from this movie.

Hamari Adhuri Kahani (2015)
This movie was directed by Mohit Suri, and starred Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, and Rajkummar Rao. Although the movie did not do well at the box office due to it overly depressive tone, the music of the film did garner a lot of hits. Mithoon was behind the music again, this time collaborating with Jeet Gannguli and Ami Mishra to produce 2015's biggest musical hit. 'Humnava' and 'Hasi' are two of its biggest hits.

Roy (2015)
Debutant Vikramjit Singh took up the directorial helm for this film. The movie had Arjun Rampal, Ranbir Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles. Although the movie was widely bashed by critics for its poor story, the music garnered a lot of attention. It was composed by Amaal Malik and Ankit Tiwari, with the song 'Tu Hai Ki Nahi' reaching 26 million hits on YouTube.

Shaandaar (2015)
Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starred in this Vikas Bahl movie, which was produced by Anurag Kashyap. The movie's fairtytale-like story, coupled with bad acting by the leads made the audience shun the film. However, its musical numbers such as 'Gulabo' and 'Nazdeekiyaan', composed by Amit Trivedi, made the Indian audience go wild.

Tamasha (2015)
This Imtiaz Ali movie had the sizzling chemistry of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone on screen. The movie polarized critics and audiences all over. However, its beautiful music was a combination of quirky and emotional, and composed by A.R. Rahman. 'Matargashti' still receives airplay to this date.

Sanam Teri Kasam (2016)
This movie is directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, and features Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane in the lead roles. Even two directors working together could not save this movie from becoming a box office flop. Nonetheless, Himesh Reshammiya's music garnered great attention from the Indian public. The title track was one of the most popular songs of the year

Fitoor (2016)
This movie is based on Charles Dickens' famous novel, Great Expectations. Ironically, it could not live up to the audience's expectations, as even Tabu, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Katrina Kaif could not prevent it from tanking at the box office. Aditi Rao Hydari also made an appearance in the film, and along with Tabu, received critical acclaim for their roles. Amit Trivedi's soundtracks received similar acclaim, with 'Yeh Fitoor Mera', 'Pashmina', and 'Haminastu' being loved by all.

Baar Baar Dekho (2016)
This movie is based on Adam Sandler's 'Click' and is directed by debutant Nitya Mehra. Although Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif's pairing and chemistry in the movie was praised to some extent, the film did not deliver in the box office. Its music, composed by the likes of Amaal Malik and Badshah, did really well and received a lot of airplay when released. 'Kala Chashma' was one of the biggest hits around.
