Carving a niche for oneself in the Bollywood film industry can be a difficult task. Few people get opportunities, and even fewer take those opportunities and go on to become megastars in the industry.
There are some Bollywood actors who took the opportunity and despite giving the public one hit movie, failed to make the most of the pedestal that they were launched into. For some reason or the other, they lost the limelight and faded into the mediocrity that many actors have tried to escape.
Here's a list of ten Bollywood actors who delivered only one hit and then were not able to relaunch themselves in the same manner.
Anu Aggarwal
Acting opposite Rahul Roy in her debut movie, 'Aashiqui', this actress, much like her co-star, has failed to produce any more hits after the 1990 movie. She continued her modelling stints and acted in a few other movies following 'Aashiqui', but did not garner much attention for her performances. She is now an avid practitioner of yoga.
Bhumika Chawla
Another actress who made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan, Bhumika Chawla's performance in the superhit movie 'Tere Naam' was critically acclaimed. That did not help Bhumika's case, however. She could not find another Bollywood movie which suited her taste and went back to acting in Telugu films.
Diana Penty
Known for her work in modelling, Diana Penty started off with the movie 'Cocktail'. Her performance in the movie garnered praise and won her awards and nominations. However, she decided to take a sabbatical from acting for about four years. Her last successful film was 'Happy Bhag Jayegi' which turned out to be a sleeper hit. Her films following this one haven't been as successful.
Rahul Roy
Known for his most famous role as the lead actor in 1990's 'Aashiqui', Rahul Roy's stock in the Bollywood industry has slowly declined over the years. Despite a few other films following his debut 1990 blockbuster, he has never quite hit the same strides. He has been awarded for lifetime achievements in cinema, followed by a win in the first season of Bigg Boss. However, he has now ventured into producing and his first movie production was 'Elaan' in 2011.
Rajat Barmecha
Rajat Barmecha made his debut opposite Ronit Roy in the sleeper hit 'Udaan'. The movie's ideas were ahead of its time, and the acting was near flawless. It won many accolades and so did Rajat's acting. However, he has not been seen in another movie since his debut.
Rajeev Khandelwal
Rajeev Khandelwal actually has a background in the television soap opera acting. Although he is well known for his performances on the small screen, he tried his hand at cinema through the film 'Aamir', which tanked horribly at the box office. He has since returned to acting on television.
Rajiv Kapoor
The lesser known of the three Kapoor brothers, Rajiv Kapoor had tried his hand in acting when he made his debut in 'Ek Jaan Hai Hum' in 1983. Raj Kapoor's last venture as a director, 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' (1985), was another movie in which he played the lead. However, his endeavour of being a successful actor in Bollywood did not come to fruition. He is now a producer and director.
Ruslaan Mumtaz
Being the son of a prominent Marathi actress must bear some pressure. Ruslaan Mumtaaz is the son of Anjana Mumtaz, a mainstay in the Marathi industry. His first film was 'MP3: Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar'. Following this, he failed to nail down any worthwhile film offers and then tried his hand at television soap opera. He has now established himself in the TV industry, even acting in a work by Vikram Bhatt.
Sonal Chauhan
Sonal Chauhan made her debut in Bollywood opposite Emraan Hashmi in 2008's 'Jannat'. She has also dabbled in fashion modelling as well as singing. After her debut in 2008, she failed to entice more offers for acting in Bollywood and shifted to acting in Telugu films. Her stint in Bollywood seems to have come to a premature end.
Vivek Mushran
Vivek Mushran is a huge television soap opera personality in India. His biggest hit in Bollywood, however, continues to be 'Saudagar'. Although he has acted in a few other films following it, they have not been nearly as successful. He now seems to have shifted to the small screen on a permanent basis and does not seem likely to return to Bollywood anytime soon.
