Japan Airlines currently operates the fifth largest 787 Dreamliner fleet in the world, with 45 airplanes in its fleet. Close to half of the JAL Dreamliner fleet are the dash 8 models. The 787-8 is the base model of the 787 family and was the first to enter service in 2011. As of January 2023, 26% of 787 orders are for the 787-8 with 386 delivered. The JAL livery is called the tsurumaru or “crane circle.” It is an image of a Japanese red-crown crane with its wings extended in full flight.
