Travelling in itself is always stressful, but deciding on what makeup to take is as stressful as the day is long. Talk about first world problems.
I made a loooot of lists trying to narrow down what I took with me but in the end I still ended up taking way too much (especially considering I bought a tonne over there - a haul is coming soon!)
Here's the makeup I took with me...
These are my base products. I went OTT but I don't even care. I took the Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation which gives the most gorgeous glow without looking oily, the L'oreal True Match Foundation which is matte on my skin (and perfect for any Hollywood glam makeup looks I want to do) and the Makeup Atelier High Definition foundation. I definitely used the Makeup Atelier HD Foundation the most because it had a really good coverage and I had a lot of redness in my skin from traveling. (does anyone else get this?). I used the Smashbox one twice while I was away and it lasted all day long but being completely honest, I did feel as though I needed to powder a bit throughout the day to get rid of any oily patches.
I also took the blush palette from Makeup Atelier (which has three blush shades and a highlight) and I can honestly say I used every shade. I didn't need any more blush other than this palette which was handy. It's also super pigmented so I only needed a teeny tiny bit to go a long way. Aside from that I took my Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc which I ended up not using. Still, it's my fave highlighter and so was definitely going to take it whether I needed it or not.
Aside from that, I took my Smashbox High Definition Concealer which is just my saving grace for this time of year. It has amazing pigmentation, it's glowy without being oily and it lasts all day long. Loved. It!
For eyes, I took three palettes. Yes three. Two of which you don't see in this picture but I will come to those shortly. The first palette I took was the L'oreal Color Riche La Palette Nude which has ten different nude shades included. I thought this palette had everything I needed in terms of eyeshadow requirements but as it turns out, when a lass is presented with more pretty things, that lass wants to take ALL said pretty things with her to New York, which is why I ended up taking a Makeup Atelier palette and the new Nars Limited Edition NARSissist Matte/Shimmer Palette. It's beautiful, just beautiful and I will be doing a "get my face" using the palette in the coming days, so don't forget to check back for that. I also took Mac Cranbrry eyeshadow and a Makeup Atelier bronze cream eyeshadow.
For lashes, I took my Maxfactor Velvet Touch mascara (which gives incredible volume and lift but still feels a bit crispy to touch in my opinion. Still definitely worth trying!) and a Daniel Sandler Intense Volume pro mascara. This mascara was a little thinner than I thought it would be, but definitely packs a punch. My lashes had great volume after two coats and it kept it's volume throughout the whole day. I also took my trusty Maybelline black liquid eyeliner too (best liquid liner EVER!)
For brows, I took my Eye of Horus brow perfector and Maybelline brow gel because these two together were my ultimate winning combination (all that has changed now thanks to a new purchase but more on that later!)
Finally for eyes I took a pair of Kiss Lashes false eyelashes which are my go-to for days when I can't be assed fussing around with my makeup. I'd whap a pair of these on and my eyes looked fresh as a daisy or maybe just a half dead daffodil LOLZ!
For lips, I liked to keep things nude and light throughout the day and so I took the Clarins Instant light lip perfector in shade 03, the Maybelline Matte Lipstick in "Nude Embrace" and the Smashbox Always Sharp lip liner in "Melon" ( I looooove these lip liners, they're so creamy and glide on the lips without fading throughout the day.)
Up next, I took two brown toned nudes - a smashbox always sharp lip liner and an Essence Lipstick. I liked these for when I fancied going a little darker but not too dark. To finish the lip products I took another Smashbox Always Sharp Lip liner and Mac Ruby Woo Lipstick. Why? because a girl can never rock a red lip too often and this product combination is literally beautiful.
So that's all the makeup I took with me, but I diiiid buy a few things while I was out there (actually, I spent roughly $400 on beauty products in NYC woops!)
Which products can you just not live without even when you are travelling?
