Hi loves!
Yesterday I told you all that I had been struck down with a cold (queue dramatics) and realised that I am by far not the only one to get a cold over winter, so I thought I would put together a guide on Surviving a Winter Cold.
1 - Lemsips, Vicks Vapour Rub, Fishermans Friends.
These are all medicated items, you can only take Lemsips once every four hours at the earliest because they contain paracetamol but they really do help to decongest you and break up mucus in your chest, ears and throat, Vicks vapour rub is the bee's knees! it smells really strong and so helps to clear your nose and allow you to breathe a bit better and Fishermans Friends are really horrible to taste but they are menthol and help to clear your throat so definitely give them a go.
2 - Shower!
Having a hot shower will do wonders for you, the hot steam will help to clear your tubes and soothe your chest and pulled muscles from coughing.
3 - Brush Your Teeth
Might sound a bit obvious, but make sure you brush your teeth even if you do feel like skipping it all and going to bed. Germs get stuck to your teeth and tongue so brushing your teeth will help to get rid of any germs in your mouth.
4 - TCP
Yep, that horrible antiseptic stuff you hate the smell of. Gargle with it (dilute it with a bit of water first or prepare to burn your throat!) and the horrible mucus-y stuff will break up easier meaning you won't be coughing your way through your sleep.
5 - Sleep
If you can, try and sleep! Sleeping is the best healer because it gives your body a rest. It's almost like clicking the 'reset' button on your computer.
6 - TLC
My Mum brought me a pillow and some tomato soup then sent me off for a shower while she made me a cuppa tea and put fresh bedding on my bed. Absolute gem! If you have someone close to you, then tell them you're feeling a bit rubbish and would appreciate a little bit of help with meals and things - you'd be surprised at just how much people love to help!
That's all my tips for surviving a winter cold! If you have the cold then I feel your pain, I'm on day 6 of this cold and it definitely peaked yesterday so trust me, if you feel awful today, then tomorrow you will start to feel better. In the meantime, embrace the funny noises your chest makes when you breathe, enjoy your lemsips (Yuck!) and try not to loose your shizz.
All my love
Holly
