Blogging | Why It's Important To Create Content That's Right For You

Blogging | Why It's Important To Create Content That's Right For YouTowards the back end of 2014 I had a sort of YouTube flop; Not a flop in the form of that I failed to film but a flop in the terms of my content. I hit full force into a brick wall and began to think 'What am I even doing here?' and to be honest, I still feel like that. I wish to create content that is not only exciting and interesting to watch (and read!) but I want to do something that is a little bit outside of that cliche box. Now I am not saying I don't enjoy seeing everyone's favourites, what's in their bag and whatnot, because I spend hours doing so, I just didn't feel like filming those particular videos was for me. So today I'm talking to you about why it's important to create content that's right for you.
Don't fake it until you make it. Even though yes, sometimes you have got to do things that you necessarily don't want to do, I think that if you create content that you are not 100% into and engaged with, your readers will soon enough begin to be able to tell. One of the key things when being creative is keeping it real and keeping it honest; There is nothing more pure than showing your readers through your work who you really are and what you love, not getting all tangled up in the blogger stereotype machine, as it is very easy to do so. However, I understand that it may feel like it takes time to discover what you like writing about most, so don't be afraid to dip your toes in different waters to see what you enjoy best.
You may get stuck in a rutt. When I feel like I am not producing content that is up to the standard that I would like it to be, I get really down about it and feel like I am stuck. It makes me consider the fact that I may be constantly just repeating myself and not improving and acting well enough on my ideas to make them feel worthwhile. Now don't get me wrong, 95% of the time I whole heartedly enjoy blogging as a whole and consider it 'fun', but I really want to make this a creative space that's both enjoyable and knowledgable for me and my readers. I want that content to be relevant to me, and to write about things that inspire me.

You are a fish in a sea of thousands. The blogging and vlogging community has snowballed within the last year or so and it is all becoming a pretty big deal these days. There are new creatives stepping up their game each and every single day and it is pretty easy to get lost in the midst of it all. As a little fish you need to make your fins known and your colours bright and beautiful but still keep true to yourself and remember where and why you started. Try not to fall in to that trap of doing what everyone else is doing because 'it's the norm', dare to try something different and you are more likely to stand out and capture the minds of your readers.
But most of all, follow your heart. If you like beauty, then write about beauty. If you like music, then write about music. If you like pugs dressed in funny costumes, then hell you write about those damn pugs dressed in funny costumes. What I'm trying to say is, don't feel like you have to conform to what everyone else is doing. If you create content that you love, and that you are proud of, then it's pretty much guaranteed that everyone else will love it too. Have a little faith, have a little confidence and let the rest be history.
I would love to know in the comments below what your thoughts are on this specific topic. Have you ever felt that you've created content that wasn't necessarily 'you'? What did you do about it? Why do you think it's important to create content that is right for you? Lets have a discussion! I hope you enjoyed this kind of post, thanks for reading.
