The Reasons I Dressed
My 3rd Mother’s Day!!! Wow…how on earth did this happen? I still remember being that girl who came out of the nightclub at 2am only to go into an after hours at 2:30 until work the next morning. I thought that was fun, I thought THAT was happiness….I had no idea!
I read something the other day that basically summed up how I feel about being a parent. It was a quote under one of my favourite stylish mom instragrammers that goes like this….
I have no need for children, for it is happiness I am in search of. And all the while she spoke, I smiled while happiness tugged at my skirt” – unknown
Gets me every time.
I just want to say something and then I’ll get on to talking about fashion and where I went. IT TAKES TWO PEOPLE TO MAKE A BABY. TWO. In a logical world two people find each other, they love each other and they desire to make a family so they have a child or adopt. The end …happy ever after.
This Mother’s Day my heart goes out to all the non-Moms who would love to have a baby but who are faced with obstacles in getting there. Either men that don’t want to commit, a partner afraid of the responsibility of children, or a couple that can’t have kids and 1 of the 2 doesn’t want to adopt or look into other options. I feel for all of you. And I reflect on this often (because I’ve been there) and it makes me appreciate every single second with my son. Every SECOND.
Now on to why I dressed….
We spent this Mother’s Day Sunday at the Event of the Year (for me at least!) in Modena, the used toy sale (read about it here). There, we met up with some friends, played at the parking lot / archeological park (I’ve also written about that here), and then headed into the Centro (centre of the city).
We didn’t book a restaurant for lunch, since we wanted to keep the day easygoing and not be rushed, but we had a HARD time finding a place that wasn’t packed and that had a highchair!
Good thing there was the Caffe Concerto in the main square Piazza Grande, which I’ve written about here and here! This place is large, beautiful, they have a great buffet at lunch and they have change tables and plenty of highchairs.
After lunch we walked under the porticos and in the square, finding ourselves at the steps of the Duomo of Modena. A UNESCO World heritage site, I am planning to do a few posts about the Duomo, for now I’ll just say that in Italy hanging out of the steps of the Duomo is a thing that people do!
What I Wore
If you read the post from this past Monday you know that I am continuing with my Shopping Ban Challenge, and SHOPPING MY OWN CLOSET THIS SEASON!!!
With all of the clothes and accessories I already have, and based on all of my Fashion Foresight purchases (where I analyze the upcoming trends and shop thrift or cheap in advance so I’ll be stylish without needing to spend big bucks) I figure I have enough clothes to be stylish this season.
One of the hottest trends this season, that made its way on the runways and also on bloggers is cropped Palazzo pants, meaning cropped wide-leg flowy pants. If you aren’t too familiar with this trends I’ve been following it a bit on Pinterest.
Found on ladymoriartyinparis.blogspot.com
Well, it just so happens that a few years ago I thrifted these silk, cropped palazzo pants while in Toronto on vacation visiting family.
I’ve paired them with a pair of flat, pointed flower embellished ballerinas and socks! I wrote here about the whole socks and shoes trends going on in blogger land, and I also have a board dedicated to it on Pinterest. I was thinking about doing sandals and socks, but I realized I’m not brave enough to go there just yet. My view on socks and shoes not usually worn with socks ? …… COMFORTABLE!!! AND GREAT for re-using shoes I wore throughout the pregnancy that got a little stretched out from my chubby feet!
I added in a triangular leather purse from niche designer Joanne Zachar (had this for YEARS) and a bright orange knit Zara sweater, which was actually perfect for the weather (I’m learning!)
After lunch we strolled around and ended up going for an ice cream. My husband bought a yummy looking strawberry covered artisanally made popscle that my son couldn’t resist and ended up eating. What can I say……used toys, my man, my baby, someone else made lunch, ice cream…..It was an amazing day.
