Blogger How To's: How To Know What To Blog About

By Hollysbeautybox @hollysbeautybox
Hi everyone!
I announced on twitter a few weeks ago that I was going to be starting a 'blogger how to' series and instead of starting out at base level for example how to set up a blog and all of that jazz, I thought I would do an 'advanced' series for people who have already established their blogs.
Blogger How To's: How To Know What To Blog About
Now just as a weeeee disclaimer, I am not claiming to be the bee all and end all of blogging and there are sooo many people who are much more 'successful' than I am, but I have been blogging for almost 2 years now and I feel like the experience I've learned over this time has allowed me to give up my job and my full time job is now as a blogger.
Anyhoo, the first of the series is 'How To Know What To Blog About'.
I always get so frustrated when someone says "I cant think of anything to write about".  I've been there, I've said it myself before, so I'm in a good position to tell you how I overcame that feeling.
1 - Don't blog about something you don't want to blog about.  If you have to sit and think of what to write about then your blog is not a true reflection of who you are as a person. Be real, be true to yourself. If you categorize yourself as a beauty blogger, then think about everything beauty related you do in a day. Write about each thing. Write about what you wish was different about your routine, what products you wish you could incorporate into your routine - all of the things that come naturally to you and you can talk about from experience.  Your visitors will appreciate that you're being genuine.
2 - I remember asking you lot on twitter what you would like to see me do a 'how to' blog on. What an idiot I am. What an idiot you are if you do the same (call it tough love?).  You should only do a how-to on something you know how to do. Whether that be a fishtail braid, how to sing or decorating a Christmas tree - whatever you can do, tell others about - we're all unique, we all have different qualities and skills and so if you tell others about how you do those things, your content becomes completely unique to you - again something your visitors will truly appreciate and will probably source out on google or other search engines to find.
3 - If all else fails, take a break.  If you're truly struggling to think of anything to write about, take a break. Maybe try filling in a blogger tag - for example "the beauty scenario tag" or "a-z of beauty tag" and give your mind a rest. You'll find that blogging will come  naturally to you if you don't force it.
Just remember that no other blogger is the same as you. There is only one you! You can contribute things that others cant, just as they can contribute things that you can't. Don't ever try to copy another blogger or post something just because that's what they do - be true to yourself, trust me it's worth it in the end!
Next in the series: Who to ask & How to ask for PR samples without sounding desperate.
