My thoughts:
This type of book is something that I don't typically read. I usually stick to cozy mysteries and historical fiction, which is clearly evidenced by this blog. I decided, when offered to read this book, that I would step outside my box and try something new. I am so glad that I did. This book was fantastic. It started off with a bang right away and had me reading through it to find out what happens next. Andrew Mayne is a fantastic thriller writer and keep me guessing from page one until the very last page. The author created a wonderful character in Jessica Blackwood. She is not your typical protagonist. She is not confident in her skills as an FBI investigator. She has a troubled background and fights constantly with her past in this book.
I really enjoyed this book. For some reason it reminds a little of James Patterson, but at the same time, it doesn't. James Patterson's books tend to follow a predestined formula and this one was all over the charts. I had no idea what to expect next and spent most of the book wondering what the Warlock had in store next. The author did a phenomenal job of creating some pretty complex murders in this book and it amazed me as it shows me a little bit of what his imagination is like.
If you are looking to read a thriller that will keep you turning the pages and that is not your typical thriller, then this is the book for you. I really enjoyed this one a lot and I am hoping that we get to see more of Jessica in future novels. The author really has created a masterpiece and I can't but hope that he has more for this reader. I am also glad that I tried something a little different from the norm for me and that I loved it.
