Overkill is one of Motórhead's finest albums, a hard-hitting landmark in their storied career. NYC singer and guitar ace Andee Black decide to cover it in full, using his one-man project Black Sugar Transmission to lay down all the parts, with only Jason Bieler (Saigon Kick) as an outside help, taking the first solo in Damage Case.
Black's re-imagination is respectful, but not a slavish reproduction of the original. He added glam guitar pyrotechnics, electronics and harsh drumbeats, plus his sexually charged vocals. If Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor had been still around, they sure would have bought him more drinks than he could handle. This 21st Century version of Overkill is a vibrant tribute a band that spelled "rock 'n' roll" in capital letters. Play really fucking loud. And remember: "Lemmy didn't auto-tune and neither should you".
