Plenty a time, we knock on doors, beg to get a seat at the table.
Get the door shut close in our face, the chair ripped apart in front of us.
We keep struggling, trying to fight, plead for the said seat, until it hits us in the face.
How about we stop pleading, begging and requesting things that we will never get?
How about we stop asking for a seat where we are not wanted or even respected?
And suddenly there was our epiphany, we will build our own table!
Because guess what? We can build it and make the rules and change the game.
2017 mantra for this space and everything I do personally is inspired by the impeccable Liberian model Deddeh Howard.
She took the lemons the fashion industry throws at her and makes some pretty darn lemonade.
In the same spirit I invite to a year of being unapologetic about my choices, the year I stop expecting anything from anyone.
The year I and you all create our own piece of paradise, our own creative space of healing, love, support and empowerment.
The year we DO and not BEG. Diversity is not my job but it is my job to show what I can do and who I want to be.
