The husband always struggles to try to do something special for my birthday. He's not a big surprises guy, and I am picky. This means that every year I do all the planning and excitement for everyone's birthday, and also for my birthday 😳.
But this year, I have been really running ragged. It's just past the middle of the year, and I am already longing for Christmas - a long ten-day break when I can switch off from the world and relax.
Anyway, this year I wasn't planning anything for my birthday. And I think the kids sensed I was down and not up for anything. So, they have been nagging my husband to do something special.
I took a little pity on him when I saw him googling Ikea stuff and sent him a wishlist to help him out. I really didn't want wrong random Ikea stuff in the house 😜. Not that I have anything against Ikea, they have some great stuff, but I wouldn't really go there to buy a birthday present for someone 😀.
Here's hoping I get something from on here. And maybe this list would help other hapless husbands trying to do the right thing.
A nice plant in an attractive planter
A jade plant is easy to maintain and so pretty as wellMost of my salary is going towards Leafy Island these days. I love the quality of their plants, their service, and how they stand behind their products. I have been really flexing my green thumb this year, and it's mostly thanks to the wonderful plants and after-sales support they provide. A post on my gardening updates is coming soon!
Books
I always have an Amazon wishlist chock full of books for myself - I then glance at them now and then to see if they come on sale. Here are some books on my wishlist currently.
Books on my wishlistI sent the wishlist over to K so that he has some ideas. He's not a bookish person at all, so I really don't trust him to get books that I like.
Something to make my life easier/less painful
Working from home and having no work/life balance has really screwed up my back. I have reluctantly returned to physiotherapy treatment and have invited the heating pad back into my life. My back is so screwed up that I feel comfortable only with my legs stretched out.
Because I need to monitor my son's homework, classes, and generally be in the center of the housekeeping an eye on things (ugh, hate multi-tasking like this) - a work table and chair in a home office is the stuff of dreams for me.
One thing that I have been thinking about is this table. It looks delightful, and I love the thought of having a small portable table that I can take with me wherever I work. And also, it's just so pretty! I love decoupage!
K is, however, very skeptical of Instagram shops. When I showed him this link, I was subjected to a long lecture about the dangers of buying from random strangers on the internet. So, sadly, I don't think I am going to get this table 😟.
Something to wear
Indian clothing is fantastic. Since they are fairly loose-fitting, getting the correct size is not an issue. K has successfully managed to get me clothes in the past. So, I thought a kurta set would be well within his comfort zone.
I love the detailing on the dupatta of this suit. So, I fell in love with the color of this suit, the detailing on the dupatta, and I may be attending a couple of weddings later this year. (Covid willing!), so maybe he could get me this!
Running shoes
I can always do with a good pair of running shoes. I have heard great things about the Nike Zoom Fly 3, which is supposed to make even a slow, lumbering hippo (aka me!) improve their athletic performance. This shoe narrowly escaped the Tokyo Olympics ban because its thick foam soles and carbon fiber plates improve speed. I could do with one of these 😀.
It's also pretty attractive, I thinkI knew K would be happiest giving me the sports shoes. Unfortunately, I see now that they are sold out. Maybe it's because he's already bought me a pair?
Hmm, one can always hope 😀. I will update this space once I find out. What do you do for your spouse on their birthday?
