Bruce Lee was a Hong Kong American martial artist, Hong Kong action film actor, martial arts instructor, philosopher, filmmaker, and the founder of Jeet Kune Do. Lee was the son of Cantonese opera star Lee Hoi-Chuen. For hundreds of years, martial arts have been benefiting millions of people all over the world. In China, Buddhist monks, known as the Shaolin, originally developed this art. They invented it to help train themselves physically and mentally. It taught people self-defense, to be disciplined and strong-minded, as well as helping people get their body into shape. Since then, martial arts have been taught all over the world in many different styles. In the media today, we find martial arts almost everywhere, in the movies, TV shows, as well as video games.
Many martial artists throughout the world are famous movie stars, but one man will forever be remembered as the greatest martial arts star of all time. Bruce Lee is considered to be one of the greatest martial artists as well as philosophers of all time. He has touched many people's lives even after his death. Bruce Lee "was born in the Year of the Dragon, in the Hour of the Dragon, on November 27, 1940" in Jackson Street Hospital in San Francisco, California. "Bruce's father, Lee Hoi Chuen was a well-known performer with the Cantonese Opera Company of Hong Kong, and was on the American tour" in San Francisco at that time while his wife, Grace, was pregnant with Bruce. Bruce had two names, but he had many other nicknames as well. His Chinese name was Jun Fan, which meant, Return Again. It was his mother who gave him this name. She gave him this name because she had believed that later in life, he will one day return back to America. His English name, Bruce came from a nurse who was working in the hospital during his birth. Another name given to Bruce was Sai Fon, which meant Small Phoenix in Cantonese.On July 20, 1973, just one month before the premiere of Enter the Dragon, Bruce Lee died in Hong Kong, China, at the age of 32. The official cause of his sudden and utterly unexpected death was a brain edema, found in an autopsy to have been caused by a strange reaction to a prescription painkiller he was reportedly taking for a back injury. Controversy surrounded Lee's death from the beginning, as some claimed he had been murdered. There was also the belief that he might have been cursed, a conclusion driven by Lee's obsession with his own early death.
