“Big Things have Small Beginnings”

I first heard this quote from one of my favorite movies “Prometheus

If you saw the movie then you know that it has nothing to do with business or startups, but for whatever reason, this quote got stuck with me.

Like many of you, when I started this blog my goal was to grow really fast and make it as popular as I possibly can.

While that was a great goal to have, there were a few problems. I was focusing on blowing up so big that I forgot to do the little things that really matters.

I was THINKING too BIG, and as a result I would spend hours and hours making sure the designs and layout were perfect. Even when I had no real content on the site, I wanted to have the perfect theme.

To make matters worse, I was using Mashable as guide to build the blog.  Now, keep in mind that at the time Mashable was already generating millions of dollars… and yet, I was convinced that I can mimic their theme layout and be just as successful as they were.

Boy, was I wrong!

You see, I was so busy THINKING BIG that I completely forgot that Mashable started out really small. Probably even smaller than most of us right now. I forgot that it actually took Pete Cashmore years and years of hard work to get to that point.

To make a long story short, I ended up spending hundreds of dollars on designs and WordPress developers for no good reason. I should have been focus more on publishing great content and growing an audience.

“Big Things Have Small Beginnings” – Thinking Big, and Making Small Progress

In conclusion

I agree we should all be THINKING BIG. But in doing so, don’t forget that most of the successful companies and entrepreneurs that we’ve come to admire actually started out very small.

“No matter how small you start or how slow you’re moving, you’ll eventually get there.”

“You can have a BIG VISION, but take it one day at a time. Nothing happens overnight. “

The key is to start something and keep moving.

Remember, there is no such thing as standing still. If you’re not moving forward; you’re moving backwards.

It is as simple as that.
