Today's post is inspired by a photo of Kristen Stewart on the red carpet at the Oscars last night. No, I didn't watch-- that would have been a wee-hours affair with the nine-hour time difference. KS never seems to comb her hair-- hence my Fun French Word of the Day, tignasse (apparently she's none too fond of water, either).
Her no-style style reminded me of one big difference between Americans and most European women, especially young ones, even on special occasions. You don't see Frenchwomen with "big hair"; or if you do, they're old ladies. The heavily made-up look is not Parisian either. You won't notice their makeup most of the time. In fact, Frenchwomen always seem to look neat and pretty, but only casually chic. It's not an effortless look, but it looks effortless!
