Classified documents were found in the residence of Joe Biden when he was president. The Republicans are trying to make political hay out of it, and use it to protect Donald Trump. They want Americans to believe Biden's and Trump's situation are equal. They aren't!
Neither should have had classified documents. That's a given. But the difference -- the criminal difference -- lies in the reaction of the two men.
When the Biden documents were discovered, the National Archive was notified and the documents were immediately turned over to them.
Things are far different with Donald Trump. After he left office, the National Archive notified Trump that he had documents (both classified and not classified) that belonged to the American people. They asked him to return those documents. Trump refused to return the documents.
This went on for about a year and a half before the National Archive employees went to Florida and demanded their return. They were given some documents and told that was all the documents. That was false.
A couple of months later, the FBI used a search warrant to raid Mar-A-Lago in search of additional documents. They found dozens of boxes of government documents, including hundreds of classified documents. After that, Trump tried to act as though he had been wronged, and claimed the documents rightfully belonged to him.
Of course, he was wrong. The documents belong to the American people.
Even today, Trump refuses to declare under oath that there are not additional documents that he is hiding. He is currently in court, hoping to avoid having to designate an employee of his to swear under oath that all documents have been returned.
President Biden's reaction to learning of documents actually make Donald Trump look worse. He looks worse because, while Biden reacted appropriately, he did not. Trump's actions were criminal.
