Best Ways to Travel Gluten-Free

By Healthytravelblog @healthytravel1

Gluten-FreeLiving with a food allergy isn’t easy. But even if you follow a strict gluten-free diet, there’s no reason traveling needs to be less fun. As global awareness of gluten allergies continues to rise, an increasing number of travel businesses, including cruise lines, resorts, and airlines, are finding ways to accommodate this common dietary need. And that should make you a little happier inside.

Although the best way to guarantee the food you eat doesn’t contain a trace of gluten is by cooking it yourself, this isn’t always possible. Fortunately, these companies are working to make your life a little bit easier:

Hotels & Resorts

Sandals and Beaches Resorts have earned a great reputation as being extremely accommodating to guests with gluten allergies. Travelers who stay at one of these resorts can expect to meet with a culinary team upon arrival to discuss their dietary needs, no matter what the issue might be.

Disney World, which has locations all around the globe, is another great destination for gluten-free travelers. Planning on spending a couple of days at a Disney amusement park? All you have to do is contact the Special Dietary Needs department to get gluten-free menus emailed to you prior to your trip. You can expect the same care if you stay at one of its resorts as well.

Certain international hotel chains have started offering gluten-free dining options as well. Accommodations to consider include Fairmont, Ritz Carlton, and Hyatt. Or, consider staying at an accommodation with a full kitchen so you can prepare your own meals.

Cruise Lines

Many of the big cruise lines now offer gluten-free dining options, including Disney Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean, and Princess Cruises. Since the policies for accommodating those with special dietary needs differ among each one, do your research prior to booking. When you find one you like, make sure you inform them of your gluten allergy well in advance.

Airlines

A number of international airlines now offer gluten-free foods, such as British Airways, United Airlines, Air Canada, and Emirates. If you’re not sure if your airline caters to your dietary needs, be sure to ask prior to booking your flight. To guarantee a gluten-free meal, call and make the request at least a week before your departure date. However, do note that some travelers have complained about receiving gluten items in their “safe” meals, so bring gluten-free snacks or meals with you in case there’s a mix-up.
