Try not to purchase a conditioner from Brand if it contains SLS (or any other form of SLS). SLS is a highly refined form of silicone, which you have to avoid using in your hair products.
The sulfate form of SLS has been banned in Europe and Canada, but SLS is still found in many other countries because the ingredient companies want to continue to produce it. Also, because the SLS form of SLS is easily washed away by water, it doesn't get out of the hair or scalp very quickly.
But because Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is highly refined, some sulfate-free conditioners from Cantu contain it. To my mind, that's just wrong. I don't like to buy products that contain one of the most damaging ingredients in the world.
What are some other sulfate-free hair products from Cantu that I should use? Cantu Sulfate-Free Hydrating Cream Conditioner is one of the new products. It's only been on the market for a few months, but it looks promising, so I thought I'd give it a try.
As with many products, I was initially excited about this product. It promises to moisturize and soften dry and damaged hair, without stripping it out. Its gentle formula promises to allow hair to retain moisture longer, without the moisture getting absorbed into the scalp.
Unfortunately, the sulfate-free conditioners from other brands that I've tried have all disappointed me. I can't understand why, because there's no way to soften or moisturize dry and damaged hair that doesn't strip out the essential oils, leaving behind the dry, lifeless hair. I know I shouldn't be disappointed, because Cantu is also the manufacturer of many hair care products containing natural oils, like Avena Sativa, which is proving to prevent and even reverse dandruff. So I'll assume that Cantu understands what ingredients to use in a conditioner.
I guess the SLS in the sulfate-free conditioners from Cantu isn't as harmful as the sulfate that's in many other products, but they still pose health risks. That's something that the company really ought to be concerned about.
One of the sulfate-free conditioners from Cantu had a mildly irritating scent, but that was about all that I could detect. Others have described a type of rancid fish smell, that I also find offensive.
One of the sulfate-free conditioners from Cantu that I think I will try next is the Cantu Sulfate-Free Hydrating Cream Conditioner. I'll give it a go when I get back from vacation, but I doubt that I'll buy it since it sounds like a synthetic fragrance that I'd rather not wear.
There are also two other products from Cantu that I think it is safe to use - the Cantu Shea Butter Hydrating Cream Conditioner Free, and the Cantu Soy Protein Powder. Cantu Soy Protein Powder is a more targeted option, providing moisture to the hair while leaving the scalp somewhat "softer".
