It’s always great to watch the Academy Awards, the most prestigious and anticipated Hollywood award event. Held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 2nd, 2014, the event this year was very special as it had some landmark moments. While the funny host Ellen DeGeneres entertained the guests with her perfect comic timing, ’12 Years a Slave’, a film featuring one of the most controversial and serious topics, won the best film. It was the first time when the work of a black director received the Hollywood’s biggest honor.
While those were the few highlights from the theatre, we were equally amazed with the spectacular red carpet arrivals. The fashion at Oscars this year was sophisticated, glamorous and completely out-of-this-world. It was a beautiful bunch of versatile styling. Colors ranged from midnight blue and pitch black to soft pastels and nude, brilliant diamonds blended with colored gemstones and show-stopping beauty looks were the highlights of the biggest Hollywood gala.
Dresses
From classic flowing gowns to peplums and mermaid dresses, everything hit the red carpet. Fine net with extensive detailing was the highlighted feature in the apparels. Cate Blanchett, Sally Hawkins, Kate Hudson and Portia de Rossi were sizzling hot in their beautiful dresses.
Blush pink (Penelope Cruz and Camilla Alves), soothing blue (Lupita Nyong’o) and crème (Kristen Bell and Naomi Watts) wee the lovely pastels contrasting sapphire blue (Sandra Bullock and Amy Adams), strong red (Olga Kurylenko, Jennifer Lawrence and Shaun Robinson) and bold black (Charlize Theron, Olivia Wilde and Emma Watson) tones.
Jewelry
Gold was never out of date but this time it was more featured then previous years. Lupita Nyong’o chose 19th century 18k yellow gold and diamond jewelry that includes the headband, a snake bracelet, crescent earrings and lots of ring. Cate Blanchett’s Chopard earrings with 62 white opals in white gold, a brown diamond bracelet and a toi y moi (you are me) diamond ring were exceptional.
Angeline Jolie again sizzled at the red carpet. Although, the Hollywood royalty ditched her statement black and green look for a heavily sequined metallic over nude dress that she paired with 42 carat diamond earrings designed by Jeweler Robert Procorp, she was as stunning as always.
As statement necklaces were back, we had plenty of them on the red carpet. However, Charlize Theron’s $15 million statement necklace from Harry Winston, Naomi Watts’ Bulgari diamond cobweb necklace, and Idina Menzel’s 77.2 carats diamond collar were the winners.
Stackable rings trend was another highlighter of the night. Emma Watson and Amy Adams rocked the style best in their multiple diamond eternity bands.
Vintage earrings, bracelets, cuffs, bangles and rings were plenty on the red carpet. The outstanding jewels were designed in platinum and gold studded with diamonds as well as colored gemstones like sapphires, emeralds, opals, rubies, fancy diamonds and aquamarine.
Makeup and Hair dos
Subtle and sophisticated was the beauty statement of Oscars. Beige lips (Jessica Biel and Sarah Paulson), short hair (Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence), wavy locks (Viola Davis and Margot Robbie), fluttery lashes (Angelina Jolie) and black cat eyes (Olivia Wilde)were the best beauty looks of the night.
