Beauty is Pain: The Pointed Pump

I have come to terms with the fact that the pointed pump does in fact look better than the platform pump. It shapes my legs and what I lose in height I gain in my overall outfit looking ten times better.

As a fashion lover with a short stature, the platform will always have a special place in my heart. There is nothing like starting the day 5’2 and skyrocketing to a statuesque 5’8 all with the help of a six inch heel and a two inch platform. To be a true fashionista though, sometimes you have to choose staying on trend over all else.

Here is one little caveat of wearing pointed pumps; they hurt like all hell. Any girl who tells you “Oh no, they are pretty comfortable” is a liar and is trying to save face for some inexplicable reason. These shoes may start  comfortable, but give it some time. The severe pain is en-route to stop all of your fun.

I will be honest and say that the discomfort of pointed pumps was a major reason for me clinging to the platform. As fashionistas, we must go with the times. Look at the red carpet and the runway. Every pump is pointed and platforms are few and far between. As Tim Gunn would say we must “Make it work!”

Let’s face it. Your feet are going to hurt no matter what. Adding a pair of insoles will definitely help though. You gain an extra two to three hours of comfort just by adding them. The pain will come, but at least you keep it at bay for a bit longer.

Hold off on putting on heels until very last moment

If you are headed to an event, wearing your heels in the office, or dare I say going out with the girls in pointed pumps, do not try and be cute and put them on right away. Wear flats until right before you get there. Think about it this way, every moment you wear heels prior to when you need to be you are subtracting time from how long you will be comfortable while you are out.

Remember that the platform pump is not dead

You should make the pointed pump your go to shoe, but that does not mean that you need to abandon the platform altogether. On days you know you will be on a your feet for the majority of the day;  wear platforms. On nights you intend on dancing the night away to celebrate your bestie’s birthday; wear platforms. When you have no idea where the day or night will take you; wear platforms! The platform pump is not dead, it just should not need to be your go to shoe anymore. Leave it for those moments when comfort is absolutely essential.

Remember fashionistas, beauty is pain. Those shoes might hurt, but damn do they look good! Will you be taking a walk on the pointed side?
