We Are Scientists, the New York trio who brought you your favorite indie rock tunes in the second half of the 00′s, “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt” and “After Hours”, are now premiering their brand spanking new single on TWHP titled “Let Me Win”. The band announced to NME late last year (mind you, in between jokes about penises and dogs) that they were returning to the studio to record a follow up to their 2010 LP, Barbara.  Now, we’re proud to announce that you lucky readers can now listen to their new material!

The band takes a slightly new approach with this slow, indie rock ballad, as opposed to their usual upbeat electronic rock. This sonic change, though, is equally as pleasing. ”Let Me Win” features a catchy downbeat, stomping rhythm, retro keys and cruisy male vocals, almost giving the track a psychedelic touch. Lyrically, the song seems to explore the subject matter of a frustrating relationship with “It doesn’t have to be this hard/ Just this once/ Let me win,” but midway through the track, the song slows to a twinkly melancholia of emotion, almost as though lead singer, Keith Murray, had a change of heart. The addition of this slow ‘Part II’ portion to the song allows “Let Me Win” to be a thought-provoking song, complete with beginning, middle and resolution.
