Bear Hands’ newest single, “2AM” is here — and it’s good. A song written about the strains of aging, the accompanying music video pins the concept against a boozy Brooklyn banger. Infectiously rhythmic synth and driven beats feed Bear Hands’ indie rock, while vocals by Dylan Rau structure sensations of floating and relaxation. Alongside the over-arching theme of growing up, lyricism such as, “I could never lose you / at least I’d never choose to” epitomizes an important love.
“2AM” projects a gentler and smoother approach when compared to Bear Hands’ past work, but it’s uniquely successful in delivering their message with an unruffled sound. Packed with a casual energy, “2AM” makes listening to the strains of aging less of a stress and more of an absentminded journey. The band’s newest album, You’ll Pay For This, is due April 15.
