Here’s another stash buster for you. I found one skein of mustard wool I used for knitting the Bulky Mustard Hat and decided to knit another beanie. It is really basic and simple to knit, even if you are a beginner knitter.
Materials:
– size 8 (5.0mm) Circular Knitting Needles
– set of four size 8 (5.0mm) double pointed knitting needles
– 1 skein of Alpacana Lanoso (Turkey) wool blend (100 grams).
– yarn needle
Gauge
15 sts and 21 row = 4×4in or 10×10cm
Size:
Hat diameter is 50 cm/20 in (but is really stretchy)
Abbreviations:
K – Knit
P – Purl
K2tog – knit two stitches together
P2tog – purl two stitches together
Base of the hat
1. Cast on 80 sts using circular knitting needles.
P1, K4 until the end of row. Join for knitting in the round. Knit 10cm/4in of K4,P1 rib.
2. After you knit 10cm/4in of P1, K4 rib, start knitting K1, P4 rib. Knit 12cm/5in in the following manner.
Decrease
Row 1: *K1, P1, P2tog, P1* repeat from * till the end of row. You will have 66 sts on your needles.
Rows 2-3: Knit K1, P3 rib;
Row 4: *K1, P1, P2tog* repeat from * till the end of row. You will have 52 sts on your needles
Rows 5-6: Knit K1, P2 rib;
Row 7: *K1, P2tog* repeat from * till the end of row. You will have 38 sts on your needles.
Note: Switch to double pointed needles if necessary
Rows 8-9: Knit K1, P1 rib;
Row 10: K2tog until the end of row. You are left with 24 sts;
Rows 11-12: K until end of row
Row 13: K2tog until the end of row. Now you have only 10sts left.
Cut yarn, leave the long tail and thread it through the remaining 10 stitches. Pull tight and weave in the end on the inside of the beanie.
That’s it!
Here’s how the ready made beanie looks like:
With a folded hem
Unfolded
Turned inside out
And here’s a couple of pics of me wearing the hat. I’ve paired it with a black wool coat, but it will suit the sporty or casual winter jacket as well.
