Barcelona Preview: Ideas From Bloggers

By Littlebckpacker @littlebckpacker

I’m off to Barcelona tomorrow for 6 nights and have frantically been trying to do some last minute research to ensure I make the most of this trip. We have tickets for the Formula One Fri-Sun but plan on cramming as much around that as possible. The budget and time are tight for this trip so some pre planning feels essential and the best place to look for this research: other travel blogs.

Neil from Backpacks and Bunkbeds has a brilliant post all about budgeting in Barcelona

This includes tips such as: buying tickets in advance (also helps on queue jumping), buying metro tickets in bulk, what free stuff there is to do and renting an apartment.

Thanks to Neil’s advice I have purchased tickets in advance for Park Guell and La Sagrada Família already. As well as having booked an apartment to stay in instead of a hotel.

Endless tips from eDreams Travel Blog

These tips are short and sweet but give me an idea of what there is to do in Barcelona. The pictures also get me excited for what I’m going to experience. They are the perfect mix of things to do and food/drink ideas.

These tips feature Gaudi work I hadn’t even considered visiting as well as another mention of the cable car at Montjuic – beginning to think I really need to do this.

Simplistic guide from The Blonde Abroad

This guide covers the basics about visiting Barcelona from where to stay to where to eat and everything else. There is the odd little tip thrown in as well. Sunset at Turo dela Rovira viewpoint and watching a Tablao Cordobes Flamenco Show are two ideas which stand out from this post.

Kiersten also reminds you about the pickpocketing problems in Barcelona especially around the Las Ramblas area where she actually had her iPhone snatched from her hand – can never be too careful.

Oneika’s tips from her 48 hours in the city

This post is a brilliant and informative write up of such a short time in the city. Considering our time con-strengths this post makes me confident we can see and do a lot. It features some of the known tourist attractions but what stood out most for me was the La Boqueria market.

Oneika also lists all of the places they ate and drank at which will be really helpful when in need of some ideas next week. Her pictures are enough to want to visit Barcelona.

Nomadic Matt’s always helpful guide

Whenever I’m researching a new place I always head over here and look at Matt’s travel guide. I have found the budget to always be useful and if you have the time to read the comments they can be invaluable.

I’ve used Matt’s guide to budget how many Euros to order but to also check for more ideas of things to do.

Jess’s top tips in collaboration with Monarch Airlines

Barcelona ideas by travel bloggers

The little backstory at the beginning of this blog had me hooked even if the tips weren’t great but obviously they were. Jess reiterates much of what the other blogs suggest. Including arriving at Park Guell early (good job we have early tickets booked) and more food suggestions.

Jess also recommends taking a bus tour of Barcelona which offers a hop on and off option. This could certainly work if we are short and time and haven’t got time for all the walking too.

This tweet by Amanda had me contemplating a photo tour in Barcelona with Foto Rura – unfortunately I think my budget is a bit tight this time but I will certainly think about it for another trip.

Lastly some tips from the Lonely Planet Twitter chat last week.
