It’s not often that my lil bro asks me to blog about a restaurant because he is so in love with it and believes it’s an underestimated Perth gem. So after my bro took me to Bangkok on William for lunch a few weekends ago, I had to move it up my to blog list.
During lunchtime, Bangkok on William serves Thai street food which has a noticable influence from Teo-Chew Chinese cuisine. My mom even said it reminds her of the food she used to eat a kid with a Thai spin on the flavor. My brother said that this style of Thai street food is what he and his fiancé little miss bacon enjoy everyday whenever they visit Bangkok. On the other hand, I have always associated Thai food with curries and Pad Thai, so it was nice to taste something different.
I don’t normally have milk with my tea but when I went to the car to pick up some toys to entertain junior burger, my lil bro ordered this Thai Milk Tea for me…
The Thai Milk Tea was sweet and refreshing. The perfect drink to have with spicy food.
We all shared this pork mince salad which had a hint of chilli…
This is my stewed pork leg and rice dish which was served with a side of salty vegetables…
The pork leg was tender, sauce was light yet tasty and I loved the side of salted vegetables. It brings me back memories of my late grandma who used to make salted vegetables on the veranda of my first home. We would then have it with congee. This dish is the Thai equivalent of Vietnamese pork and egg stew (Thit Kho) and a must try if you are a fan of this Vietnamese favorite.

Lunch of course is not complete without dessert. I liked the sound of both the mango with sticky rice and the sticky rice with ice cream so rather than deciding between the two, I asked Bangkok on William to combine them for me
I enjoyed my dessert but we all thought the sticky rice could have been softer and it needed more coconut cream which we requested.
I also ordered Takeaway Pad Thai which burger boy and I had for dinner that night. It was a bit on the dry side but it could have been due to being microwaved.
Lunch cost us $126 for the three of us plus my takeaway, which I thought was reasonable for the quality, quantity and dining experience. I enjoyed the stewed pork leg, the service was quick and the restaurant was comfortable for junior burger too – a key deciding factor of where I head out to eat these days. I’d certainly recommend checking out Bangkok on William if you haven’t already stumbled across this newish Perth Thai restaurant located at the top end of William Street near Lido. Bangkok on William also do home deliveries for $3, it’s such a shame that we are just outside their delivery area as I’d order from them all the time.
