I have always loved banana cream pie so I really don’t understand why it took me so long to make my own!

This banana cream pie recipe is so simple you will find yourself making it for any and every get together. I am definitely filing it away under favorite banana recipes.

I would recommend making this pie the same day as your event. The bananas will brown after a day or two. Just don’t forget to leave a few hours for it to cool in the fridge!

I would recommend making this recipe the same day as you intend to use it. Homemade whipped cream is so easy to make and a delicious end!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Cups Milk
  • 3 Egg Yolks, Lightly Beaten
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter or Margarine
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3 Medium Bananas
  • 1 9" Pie Shell, baked
  • Homemade Whipping Cream

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine Sugar, Flour, and Salt. Stir in Milk. Mix well.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stir constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Boil for two minutes.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Stir small amount of warm cream mixture into the Egg Yolks. Return all to saucepan.
  5. Cook for two minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
  6. Add Butter and Vanilla Extract. Mix well.
  7. Allow to cool slightly.
  8. Meanwhile, slice bananas into circles and place into baked pastry shell. Pour the cream mixture over the top.
  9. Refrigerate for a few hours until cool.
  10. Before serving, garnish with Whipped Cream.
  11. Refrigerate leftovers and use within the next day.
