Baisakhi holds a special importance to the Sikhs as it marks the beginning of a new year in the Sikh calendar and commemorates the creation of the Khalsa Panth. They begin the day by waking up early and paying a visit to the gurudwara to attend special prayer meetings.In Punjab, the occasion is celebrated with traditional singing and dancing to the sound of dhol. Young boys and girls come out into the field in their traditional attire and take part in the celebrations with their parents..

For the farmers, Baisakhi marks the ripening of the Rabi crops and the beginning of the harvest season. They celebrate it as a Thanksgiving Day where the farmers pray to God and observe various rituals.
