Back To School Headband

By Vixenmade @vixenMade
Like most of you, I'm preparing to send my daughter off to school soon.  She's officially in school this year: Kindergarten!
Pretty exciting!
To celebrate, I thought I'd make her a 'back to school' accessory with a school kinda theme to it.
I went with a headband (because they are so fun!) and the apple theme.  You know.  Apples.  Teachers.  School.  It all goes hand in hand.
And if you don't have a daughter going back to school, make one for a female teacher!
So here's how it turned out.

I found the apple buttons over a year ago on clearance and have yet to use them.  So I was ecstatic to be able to adorn her headband with one! Anyways, wanna make one, too? Here's how I did it.

What you need:
fabric strip scraps (I went with red/white colors)
headband
green felt scrap pieces
hot glue gun
embellishments (buttons, gems, beads, etc)

For you fabric strips, you may want a few different lengths for the different sized rosettes.  This piece is about 20 inches long and only 2 inches wide.

Take the end of your strip and make a small knot.  This will be the starting point and the center of your rosette.

Start twisting your fabric and wrapping around the knot.  Hot gluing every so often.

Keep wrapping and gluing until you get to the end.  One rosette done!  Easy peasy, right!?  Go make some more.

Next, get your felt scraps and trim them into small leaves (these are to mimic an apple tree leaf).

Once you have your flowers and leaves and buttons picked out and ready, you can assemble your headband.

First off.  Get some felt to match the color of your headband.  I had a brown headband, but no brown felt, so I went with black.

Using hot glue, start gluing your pieces onto the felt the way you want them.  It helps to figure out how you want it to look before gluing them down.

Once your cluster is pieced together and glued down, you can cut it out.

Be careful not to cut your rosettes or leaves, trim around where you've glued and you'll end up with something like this.

Cut out a similar shaped piece of felt in the same color.

Find out where you want your cluster to sit on your headband, then glue it onto the headband.

Then you can glue on the other felt piece, sandwiching the headband between both felt pieces.

You are finished!!

Try it on!

Does it remind you of apples on your teachers desk?

Most importantly, my daughter loved it.
