Synopsis:
“Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.”
Thoughts: Listening to Kate Rudd’s audiobook performance transforms this amazing story into something transcendent. She provides the perfect voice for Hazel, capturing her emotions, her wit, her penchant for existential observations, and most importantly, her fight for breath. One gets a true idea of just how weak Hazel is through Ms. Rudd’s performance, making it impossible to ignore how precarious her health really is. In turn, this compounds the drama and the emotion of the end tenfold.
The Fault in Our Stars was good the first time. It is even better the second time, and the audiobook version narrated by Kate Rudd makes it that much more sublime. The emotions pouring out of Hazel are raw and real, while the dialog is charmingly pretentious and yet so utterly normal. Hazel and Augustus make the world’s most adorable couple. Their story is definitely one for the ages.
