Thoughts: Listening to Kate Rudd’s audiobook performance transforms this amazing story into something transcendent. She provides the perfect voice for Hazel, capturing her emotions, her wit, her penchant for existential observations, and most importantly, her fight for breath. One gets a true idea of just how weak Hazel is through Ms. Rudd’s performance, making it impossible to ignore how precarious her health really is. In turn, this compounds the drama and the emotion of the end tenfold.
The Fault in Our Stars was good the first time. It is even better the second time, and the audiobook version narrated by Kate Rudd makes it that much more sublime. The emotions pouring out of Hazel are raw and real, while the dialog is charmingly pretentious and yet so utterly normal. Hazel and Augustus make the world’s most adorable couple. Their story is definitely one for the ages.
