Assassin's Creed: Unity will have microtransactions
Assassin's Creed: Unity will include microtransactions that let players unlock new gear faster, but senior producer Vincent Pontibrand promises that they won't change the core values of the game.
Players will be able to unlock equipment simply by playing the game or choose to fast-track them by paying real money. But Pontibrand tells Total Xbox that is "pretty much" the extent of Unity's in-game purchases.
He goes on to discuss the changing ways in which games are monetized:
"Companion apps, monetisation, other business models, digital only... We have to be reactive to these things, but not necessarily fundamentally change what we're trying to do."
Pontibrand clarifies that the team will only include microtransactions if it's right for the game, which it seemingly was for AC: Unity. "It depends. If we think it fits the gameplay, or the brand itself, the core values, we're willing to take those risks," he continued. "If not, then not. We're not going to make any compromises."  Assassin's Creed: Unity launches on October 28 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
