Asher Brian's Birth

By Sarah @PictorianPhoto
Asher Brian Atwell. Born 7:20 pm, November 18th. 7lbs 8 oz 21.5".
There is something to be said for viewing for the first time a birth. There's so many feelings and emotions throughout the whole time that you almost feel like a basket case bipolar. One minute you're in pain with her, aching and worried and the next you're extremely excited and breathless and warm. I got the chance to be a part of Jessica and Brian's first birth of the tiniest impatient little boy.
I was just getting home from grocery shopping when I got the call from Jessica's cell, Brian on the other line, very calm and collected, asked if I'd want to come on over since she was in labor.
"Now?" I questioned surprisingly.
"Yeah, now. The baby will come in about an hour."
This was a "Whaaa?" moment for me. You see, little baby Atwell was set to come into this gleaming world on Thanksgiving.
So I dropped my food off very quickly, got my fully charged camera and headed over to Jessica's parents house. Tucked away in the finished basement was Jessica, walking around a pool table, talking coffee talk and slowly waddling from side to side.
This was what labor was like? ...
No, this is what labor was like for Jessica. All natural. I have never in my life seen a birth but this woman... I can't even call her a rock star because rock stars are usually male drunks and they are not made for this kind of job. She was UNBELIEVABLE. I never heard a scream, a swear word or a wishing to withdraw from her marriage, her life or her religion.
Beth, Jessica's mid-wife, was inspiring. I don't think people understand this process. This passion and knowledge. She was graceful to watch. Right down the line, on time, on cue. This, that. This woman's got it and she's my hero.
God was there. In every minute, second, centimeter, ounce, tear, drop of sweat. He was present. I don't think He ever is not but I've never felt Him more then I did that night. Not in church, not in a bible study. He was in every motion, every heavy breath, every finger and toe.
Nothing could touch this moment.
I don't know what to else to leave you with but these...
