Food & Drink Magazine
This Christmas has been great for all the new Gingerbread flavoured products available in the supermarkets. I've already posted quite a few Gingerbread Reviews but it seems I have left the best until last. One of the reasons I love gingerbread at this time of year is that it's just such a warming flavor. At the same time, I'm never really that keen on ice cream during the winter months, which is why I left this tub of Asda Loaded Gingerbread Fudge ice cream waiting for quite a few weeks in the freezer before I decided to review it.
It's described on the packaging as "Gingerbread flavor ice cream with toffee sauce, gingerbread biscuit pieces and sweet fudge pieces". Initially I wasn't sold on the idea of the fudge pieces and thought it would be nicer to have a gingerbread ice cream with just the biscuit pieces. However, once I tried the ice cream, the fudge pieces proved to be a very welcome addition.
The gingerbread ice cream and the biscuit pieces are generously flavoured with the warming spices of ginger and cinnamon. The ice cream itself has a toffee and dark muscovado sugar base, which adds an extra depth of flavour, and creates the ideal background for the gingerbread spices. The fudge pieces don't detract from the spiced flavours, instead providing an extra burst of sweetness and added chewy texture.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the Loaded Gingerbread Fudge Ice Cream from Asda and I'm hoping they haven't sold out so I can buy it again. I really hope that this ice cream, along with the equally delicious Walls Gingerbread Sandwich ice creams, will return again next year!
