Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’ve had a busy week of work and writing. Summer is winding down, and I’m sad about that. It just doesn’t seem like there’s enough time to do all the summer things I want to do. Summer just goes by way to fast, but enough about that. Today, I want to talk about what’s going on in the writing world, specifically Artificial Intelligence.
https://allthefreestock.com/First of all, what is Artificial Intelligence? That’s a good question. Apparently, it is the ability of a computer, or a robot controlled by a computer to do tasks that are usually done by humans because they require human intelligence and discernment.
https://allthefreestock.com/It seems there are some unscrupulous people out there who’re using artificial intelligence to create books, then claiming a well-known author wrote the story. I’ve heard of more than one author who has to fight this when the books appear on Amazon under their name. These people get the money from the sale of these books while using the author’s name to sell them.
https://allthefreestock.com/This is extremely frustrating and time consuming. The real author must communicate with Amazon to take the books down, and Amazon doesn’t always comply. The real author’s hands are tied. They have no way of communicating with their fans that these books are not written by them.
https://allthefreestock.com/In my opinion, this is on Amazon. They should be making sure the author is who they claim to be. They could do what Twitter and Facebook do, and verify the account, or they could put the author’s picture with each book. But what about author’s who use artificial intelligence in their work? According to the US Copyright Office, this is acceptable.
On March 15, 2023, the U.S. Copyright Office announced that works created with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI) may be copyrightable, provided the work involves sufficient human authorship. Copyright Registration Guidance: Works Containing Material Generated by Artificial Intelligence, 88 Fed.
So now we have to define what is “sufficient human authorship.” Does anyone know? I sure don’t. I don’t want to read any books that were written using artificial intelligence. I want a real book. Don’t you? I know I won’t be using artificial intelligence in any of my stories.
https://allthefreestock.com/There must be some way authors can protect all their hard work and their reputations. As soon as fans find out the book wasn’t written by the author, they’re going to be upset and most likely stop buying those author’s books.
