Artificial Intelligence – Human Intelligence Processes by Computers

Artificial intelligence is progressing rapidly, from driving cars, to SIRI, to other machines and equipment in all industry, including healthcare. AI was found as academic discipline. Analytical, human-inspired, and humanized artificial intelligence are now known as its three types. Basically it is the simulation of human intelligence processes by computers.

Artificial Intelligence is categorized as either weak or strong. Another name for Artificial Intelligence is weak or strong AI, as it is designed and trained for a particular task and its details. A strong AI is able to find a solution without human intervention, as it generalizes human cognitive abilities.

Is Artificial Intelligence Expensive?

Artificial Intelligence may be expensive as the costs of hardware, software and staffing can pile up. AI as a service allows employees in an organization to experiment with Artificial Intelligence for various business and individual purposes, as it allows to sample multiple platforms.

Fears due to AI?

Artificial Intelligence causes general public to have great fears about artificial intelligence and improbable expectations and how it will change the workplace and life in general. But researchers argue that AI will simply improve products and services, not replace the humans because humans are the once that selects what data should be used for training an AI program.

Artificial Intelligence consists of

  • Machine Learning - is a way of computer to act without programming.
  • Automation - is a system or process that functions automatically such as robotics that is programmed to perform high-volume, repeatable tasks that humans perform normally at much lower rate.
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) - this program emphasis on spam detection. It identifies the subject line and text of emails and comes to conclusion whether it is junk mail or not. This is one of the oldest and best example of NLP, which also includes text translation, sentiment analysis and speech recognition.
  • Self-driving Cars - it pilots a vehicle while staying in a given lane, avoiding unexpected obstructions or pedestrians.
  • Robotics - they are used mostly in assembly lines in manufacturing industries such as cars. It is also used by NASA to move large objects in space.

Myths and Facts of AI

As Artificial Intelligence progresses, there is always a nagging tension that it can cause harm to humanity. To differentiate between Myths and Facts:

Robots are main concern

AI controls humans

Machines cannot have goals

AI is turning evil and turning conscious

Misaligned intelligence is the main concern: there is a requirement of only internet connection

Humans have created AI because they are smarter than robots.

A missile is programmed to have a target as its goal

AI is competent with goals, and is not aligned with humans' emotions.

The myths are generally formed because we are spending more time with machines and might lose our identities. So far we see that intelligence enables control, humans are able to control tigers because we are smarter, not due to physical strength. Some other areas where artificial intelligence has made its way are:

AI in education

Artificial intelligence can give educators more time in improving the education delivery system as they will be spending less time grading the exams and tests. There is involvement of Chatbots that provide immediate customer service. These chatbots answer all the basic queries and save time of people and customer service agents too.

AI in business

Automation is applied to highly repetitive tasks. These tasks are based on CRM platforms and machine learning algorithms that are integrated into analytics. Automation has taken away many job positions and has become a talking point among academics and IT analysts.

AI in Finance

Here your firm or organization is provided with the applications that collect personal data and provide financial suggestions or advice to do the needful. For instance, IBM Watson program helps in process of buying or selling home.

Here, automation of documentation has helped saved time as it can be overwhelming task for humans. There are lsao built in programmed questions and answers that are used during cross examination.

AI in Healthcare

Here the biggest aim is to provide improvements in patient care. With large volumes of data and increasing challenges in cost and patient outcomes, the healthcare industry is evolving rapidly. AI in healthcare is used in numerous scenarios such as:

Managing denial claims - According to the providers and patients, in general there are many challenges faced when it comes to denied claims as it can be painfully expensive for both patients and the providers. The process of claim management is highly manual with analysts and which rule applies to your practice.

But with the help of artificial intelligent models it becomes easier to find the claims that need attention and is a timesaver too! AI also assists in providing reason codes that inform providers and patients of the issues with the claim and help them fix the claim and reprocess or change it to avoid issues.

Managing Workflow - often the providers are overworked and in many occasions the hospitals are understaffed. It is easily noticeable to see the information that is missed, whenever there is support from AI model. These insights can further assist the providers in saving time, preventing unnecessary tests and patient discomfort.

ICU Transfers - usually patients are in hospital between seven to twelve days, sometimes longer depending on the patient condition. Providers and staff often find challenging to look for patients that need to be moved to the Intensive Care Unit. This is a challenge because there are times when the patients do not show any symptoms that their condition is deteriorating and that they need to be moved to ICU for further assistance.

It can be fruitful to have AI or machine learning models. AI can use lab results, medical history records and other vital signs and observe early warning signs of a patients' on going condition. To determine early warning system for providers, so that they can intervene before the ICU transfer is required, for the existing patients; all this can be used in real-time.

Fraud Detection - investigating claims is time consuming and investigating fraudulent claims is even more time-consuming! These fraudulent claims contribute to the increased cost of care, slowing the valid claims that lead to higher healthcare premiums for patients.

Applying AI here can provide clear reason codes for investigators, which makes vital factors visible (these important factors are often overlooked) and can evaluate and flag the fraudulent claims before making the payment. It reduces the costs for payors and patients and catches the fraudsters.

Improvements are seen in various sectors such as airline and other industries through service optimization and data analytics. Similarly, Artificial Intelligence can be used in healthcare industry to make improvements in the above mentioned areas and help patients get better care and assistance. This can make healthcare system work more efficiently.
