Books Magazine
I'm a young adult book blogger. Clearly.
Well maybe I shouldn't be so harsh. Maybe you're new to my blog and didn't know that.
Well anyways, I love young adult fiction. That's mostly because I am a young adult, but I know that I'll be in my 50's and I'll still be in love with young adult books. I just can't imagine giving them up for anything.
I think the reason I'm always going to come back to reading young adult books is because they actually have substance. There's such a large fanbase around these books, that the only books that get published are specifically chosen for certain things. I don't know the last time I read a published young adult book that was bad. And I mean published by those big guys like Penguin and Random House.
But, when it comes to adult books, there's a couple that just weren't good. I feel like they don't have enough balance when it comes to all their aspects. There's either too much heavy and fairy tale romance, or there's too much hardcore swearing for me to handle. They just overdo some of these topics that aren't realistic.
I'm not saying that mermaids or vampires that you often see in young adult literature are realistic. The teenage characters are real though. They talk and act like a normal teenager would.
I've heard plenty of my mother's audio books about murder mysteries and romances. How many of these adults that are so-called "successful" curse every other word and make love to "bad boys" every night? I'm sorry, but no one swears that much.
Anyways, if you don't get what I'm trying to say, it's simple: I've had bad experiences with adult novels and I've had more good experiences with young adult novels. Simple as that. I don't feel it has much to do with my age either. It's just what I feel is realistic in the two age groups.
