Arkham Knight's Batgirl DLC: Setting, plot and gameplay info revealed
The Batgirl: A Matter of Family DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight is set prior to the events of 2009's Arkham Asylum, and sees Barbara Gordon don a cape and cowl as she teams up with Robin to save Commissioner Gordon from the Joker, reports Entertainment Weekly.
The new content comes from WB Games Montreal – the team behind Arkham Origins – and is set in the Seagate Amusement Park, which is entirely new to the Arkham Knight game. This isn't any amusement park, however, with the Joker having rigged the nautical-themed oil-rig attraction to be somewhat of a deathtrap.
"We wanted to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker," said design producer Justin Vazquez.
Batgirl is fully capable when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, but also uses her hacking skills to help take down enemies, control objects and solve puzzles.
"Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It's a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine," Vazquez said. "Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off."
At the press of a button players will also be able to switch between Batgirl and Robin, with the DLC ending with an epic brawl between our heroes, the Joker and Harley Quinn.
A Matter of Family is available on July 14 for those with the Arkham Knight season pass at no extra charge. For those without the season pass, the add-on will arrive on July 21 for $9.99.
