Are Your Days on Auto-Pilot?

Are Your Days on Auto-Pilot?As we were about to step into downward dog, the yoga instructor requested, “Make this one different.  We do at least 30 down dogs in class and muscle memory kicks in causing us to stop paying attention.  Make this one special.”

I started to think how much am I doing each day because of muscle memory.  Am I operating in auto-pilot?

I thought about how I answer the phone at work, my responses to common questions, and how I handle different client situations.  For example, I got in to this habit of stating my phone number every time I leave a voicemail for a client.  Some of these clients I have been working with closely for 7 years!  Is it really neccessary?  I think that comes off as “salesly”.  I am going to stop that!

I deal with a lot of orders on a daily basis, which means the occasional return.  If my default was, “complete your return online” 100% of the time, I would have a lot of pissed off customers.  Some situations need more attention and hand-holding than others.

How many tasks and phrases do you repeat each day?  Do they still make sense or could you alter them for different people and situations?

What it comes down to is operating out of repetion, especially with people, results in nothing special.

Keep it fresh, switch it up, and don’t be afraid to re-invent yourself.  It’s all about being present.
