The world’s biggest tech giants, AOL, Apple, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Twitter, and Yahoo have joined hands together to fight against the strict government surveillance rules by writing an open letter to President Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress asking for a reform of NSA spying program.

“The undersigned companies believe that it is time for the world’s governments to address the practices and laws regulating government surveillance of individuals and access to their information,” the group writes on the Reform Government Surveillance letter. “While the undersigned companies understand that governments need to take action to protect their citizens’ safety and security, we strongly believe that current laws and practices need to be reformed.”

According to this website, the group of tech companies agrees with government on keeping tabs on people for their own safety. Although, they asks to respect and give users the freedom for free expression and privacy by improving the rules of the surveillance program for good.

Ever since Edward Snowden revealed the secrets about NSA’s PRISM program, people have been blaming tech companies for taking part of this program and sharing their private data with the government behind their back. Even though the secret is out in the open, the US government still continues this program claiming its’ right to protect the country. Writing this letter is a good gesture for proving the innocence of these multi-billion-dollar tech companies, although I highly doubt it to make any difference.
