A work friend asked me if I would make her daughters Anna cake, at first I said no, then ended up giving in, even the my inner thoughts were saying "Don't do it"! As you may know I do get a little stressed making fondant presentation cakes specially when there is an expectation on how the cake should look.
I do like making doll cakes, as they are fun. This Anna doll cake was a little more difficult as needed to match Anna's outfit.
Ingredient
10oz Margarine
10oz Caster sugar
10oz Self Raising Flour
5 Eggs
2 Tsp Baking Powder
2 Tsp Vanilla
4 Tbsp Milk
Vanilla Buttercream
Raspberry Jam
Using the all in one method add the margarine, sugar, flour, eggs, vanilla, milk and baking powder to a mixing bowl all at the same time.
Beat all the ingredients together for about 2-3 minutes until light and completely mixed.
Grease and flour a large oven proof batter bowl (2L), pour int he batter and try to keep the top level. Bake in the oven at 170c for about an hour, checking after 45 minutes to see if its bake.
Once cooled, slice into 3, ideally you should use a cake leveler if you have one, I just eye bawled it and as you can see I didn't it right!
Make up some vanilla butter cream using butter, vanilla and icing sugar. Jam and buttercream the layers, and stack the cake back up. Then buttercream the outside of the cake to help the fondant icing to stick.
Colour and roll out the icing, then cover the cake. This doesn't need to be prefect as it's the dress of Anna.Using a plastic washed and clean Anna doll, wrapping the lower body in cling film and insert her into the cake.
Slowly layer up the elements of the dress, by wrapping coloured fondant around the body.
Enjoy!
