Angel Olsen Releases Video For Rock Ballad ‘Sister’ [Video]

With only a few more days until the launch of her latest studio albumAngel Olsen released the music video for “Sister,” the third single from My Woman. The song begins with a simple, but memorable guitar riff that opens up to additional acoustic instruments, some mellow drum tapping, and then Olsen’s glorious, vapory voice. The instrumental changes towards the end of the eight-minute-long track and the repetition of one line, “All my life, I thought I’d change,” show the intensity of Olsen’s feelings about love and the future.

The beginning of the video shows Olsen walking around a farmer’s market in Los Angeles with a bouquet of sunflowers. As she moves from the city streets to an apartment in desert suburbia, she moves on from celebrating love and reveals her fearful, but hopeful feelings of the future and the unknown — “Tell me you’ll be there. I want to go where nobody knows fear.” Angel Olsen blends scenes from everyday life that, at first glance, seem mundane and monotonous with absolutely electric background instrumentals, a beautiful voice, and enigmatic verses that reveal thoughtful truths between the lines, making for a music video that’s pretty fucking mesmerizing.
