Anessa is Now Available in the Philippines & Here’s What I Think of Their Cult-Fave Sunscreen

By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

I have heard of Anessa the moment I became serious with my skincare especially on wearing sunscreen every day. There's a reason why it's the so-called #1 sunscreen in Japan for 19 years. And for a few months now that I have been using it, I learned why it has a cult-following online. Since it officially launched in the Philippines today, I thought it is finally the right time to publish this Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk review.

WHAT IS IT?

Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk is a waterproof sunscreen from Japan. Made with the unique and improved Aqua Booster EX Technology, it exhibits increased product effectiveness upon contact with water or sweat (it can stay on the pool for up to 80 minutes). It also has a friction-resistant formula, offers superior UV protection, and most importantly, it does not leave a white cast. It can also double as a makeup base. You can read its full ingredient analysis in Skin Carisma.

PERFORMANCE

APPLICATION: Shake before use. Apply enough coverage to the cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin. Spread to the rest of the face and neck.

SCENT: Some people say it smells like alcohol, some say it has a mild citrus scent. But personally, I find it has a mild powdery scent with a hint of citrus.

PACKAGING: It is packaged the same as in Japan, in plastic like on the photo.

FORMULA & TEXTURE: The Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk is a mix of physical and chemical sunscreen. So it looks like milk but feels a little creamy, but it absorbs fast into the skin and leaves a moisturizing semi-matte finish. It is not tacky nor greasy. Unfortunately, this contains alcohol so if you have sensitive skin that can't tolerate alcohol, then opt for the "mild milk" version.

MY EXPRIENCE

I have sensitive skin, but only to fragrance and most especially essential oils. When it comes to alcohol, my skin could really tolerate it. Probably because I have very oily skin. So I did not experience any breakouts from wearing the Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk. And just FYI, not all alcohol is bad. I briefly talked about it in my Belif Aqua Bomb review, although Hanna English discussed the topic well in her post here so I suggest reading that too. But if you're wondering about my acne marks on my video, that's from shark week and wearing a face mask due to pandemic.

Back to Anessa, I can confidently say that it is THE BEST sunscreen for those with oily skin especially if living in a hot and humid country like the Philippines. I love how it feels a little bit moisturizing yet it has a semi-matte finish and also controls the oil on my skin. It doesn't feel greasy or tacky at all! There are other UV Milk sunscreens in Japan but so far this is the best one I tried.
