With the recent release of Android 4.4 KitKat, Google plans to “reach for the next billion smartphone users” by offering the best performance even for the low-end devices. Although, it doesn’t seem to be necessary at the moment because according to a new report from ABI Research Android is still the king.

The report of the total smartphone shipments for Q3 2013 shows that 80.6 percent of all handsets shipped in the third quarter were powered by Android. While iOS and Windows Phone is so far behind with only 14 percent and 4 percent of the market share, respectively.

Just as TechnoBuffalo points out, things could change in the Q4 2013 sales thanks to Apple’s new set of devices including iPad Air, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. Then again, Google has also released the awesome new Nexus 5. So, that ought to balance things up a bit for the holiday season.
