Andrew Bird Stunned at Carnegie Hall [Photos]

Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and whistler Andrew Bird played an extraordinary sold out show at Carnegie Hall on Monday. The show contained two acts with no intermission in between.

The show started with Bird playing solo of “Hole in the Ocean Floor” as intro. And in Act I, Bird invited guest musicians, including pianist Gabriel Kahane, mandolist Chris Thile and jazz pianist Bob Dorough to join the stage with him one by one. Together they performed “Capital Crimes,” “Saints Preservus,” “Chemical Switches,” “My Sister’s Tiny Hands,” “Sic of Elephants” and “My Hero Zero,” “Figure Eight” and “Three is a Magic Number” by Bob Dorough.

Then in Act II, Bird’s regular band (guitarist Steven Elliot, bassist Alan Hampton and drummer Ted Poor) came up on stage and played a full set, including tunes from his latest album Are You Serious. Later on into the set, New York’s very own Shilpa Ray appeared as special guest and sang “Why?” “Louisana,” and “Left Handed Kisses” with Bird. Finally, all of the musicians rejoined the stage and ended the show with a cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest.”

The total length of Bird’s set was three hours with 27 songs. The audience of Carnegie Hall was definitely in a treat as the room sounded so good, and can definitely expect a live from Carnegie album out of this show in the near future.
