Andrew Bird is back with a chamber pop cover of The New Pornographers’ “The Fake Headlines”, which pairs well with his recent acoustically-driven material. Originally from The New Pornographers’ debut, Mass Romantic, back in 2000, Bird lifts the track into a state of happiness with his timely plucking of violins and soothing vocals. With the combined feel of a soundtrack to an English country dance and a crowd-pleasing, folk-based pub sing-a-long, Bird kept the haunting essence of the original while creating a whole new sound.

Bird’s cover is the first release from Montreal’s Yellow Bird Project’s compilation of indie rock covers, Good People Rock. Originally a music charity that sells t-shirts designed by artists like Bon Iver, The National, Tegan and Sara and The Shins, the Yellow Bird Project is taking its indie goodness to a new level with exclusive tracks from artists they already know and love. This 10-track compilation will feature songs from mainstays like TV on the Radio, Hot ChipBeach HouseKeaton Henson, Alec Ounsworth (of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah), Elvis Perkins and more. For more information or to pre-order your copy of Good People Rock, check out the Yellow Bird Project’s PledgeMusic Campaign.
