Amsterdam Art Weekend

By Amsterdam City Tours

Amsterdam has always been a huge art city, and the Netherlands - a country incredibly in love with art and artists. If you don't believe me, just head on over to the Rijksmuseum and see for yourself the amazing works of the Dutch masters. This upcoming weekend Amsterdam is embracing its artistic spirit and playing home to the second Amsterdam Art Weekend is once again in town.

This second edition of the Amsterdam Art Weekend will be in the city from November 29th until December 1st 2013. Unlike the Rijksmuseum, however, Amsterdam Art Weekend is intended to center art-lovers' focus on the incredibly active contemporary art scene found around Amsterdam. For decades, Amsterdam has hung on to its role as a pioneer of global contemporary art. This three day event zooms in on the groundbreaking effect the Amsterdam art scene has had on both established and emerging contemporary artists. The festival itself is an initiative of Capital A, a non for profit group that works at promoting the Amsterdam contemporary art scene both locally and around the world through the collaboration of artist residencies, galleries, and museums.

Throughout the weekend, more that 30 museums and galleries around the city (including the Amsterdam Stedelijk Musem, the EYE Filmuseum, and Foam) open their doors to a special jointly organized series of programs and exhibitions. Some of the contributors include world-famous post-graduate art residencies such as de Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten and De Ateliers, as well as major and minor art galleries around the city.

The creativity behind the organizers of the event is found even in its program, where you can see some examples of the art on display as you scroll through the venues.

All the participating galleries will be open until 20:00 on November 29th, from 10:00 until 20:00 on November 30th, and from 12:00 until 18:00 on December 1st.
