America, The Profane: Where We Swear

The map above shows where our country’s “politest” and “rudest” Twitter users are, based on tweets that mentioned either “Good Morning” or “F*** You.” The project was conducted by a Ukrainian firm called Vertaline, that mapped tweets in 462 locations between July 14th and 24th, 2012.

According to the heat map, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, and much of the Northeast are America’s “rudest” regions. It’s no surprise that the high concentration of “rudeness” correlates with high population density, and not actually how volatile our country is. However, the project is a good demonstration of the neatness that happens when combining the Twitter and Google Maps APIs.
