Breakout dance-pop duo AlunaGeorge (with a drummer) turned up the heat at Rough Trade tuesday night, treating the sold out crowd to a bevy of hits and a few hints of things to come. Surefire favorites like “You Know You Like It”, “Your Drums, Your Love”, and the Disclosure-abetted “White Noise” got the people moving, while new offerings “Attracting Flies” and “Heartbreak Horizon” boded well for the band’s in-the-works sophomore release.
Opening up was Colombia-born, Virginia-raised Kali Uchis, whose blunted R&B/reggae hybrid was as refreshing as it was hypnotic. With collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Diplo, and Tyler, The Creator already under her belt, a sold out show at Baby’s All Right just the week before, and an album on the way, 2015 looks to be a banner year for this upstart.
