All members of the Steelers 2009 draft class are gone
With the departure of Ziggy Hood and David Johnson, the entire Steeler 2009 Draft Class has left the team.
With the departure of both Ziggy Hood and David Johnson in Free Agency, there remains not one player from the 2009 Steelers draft class still active on the roster.
The Steelers 1st round pick from 2009 ,Defensive End Ziggy Hood, signed a 4 year $16 million dollar contract earlier today with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hood played out the 5 years of his rookie contract at a fairly consistent level of mediocrity, never becoming the player the Front Office envisioned he could be after they selected him with their first pick.
The Steelers last pick in the 7th round of the 2009 draft, Tight End David Johnson, signed with the San Diego Chargers on a two year deal on Tuesday. Johnson may be best known for his blocking ability and his sheer unluckiness, ending the last two seasons on the Injured Reserve.
Hood and Johnson have moved on from the Steelers ,joining fellow 2009 class mates Kraig Urbik, Mike Wallace, A.Q Shipley ,Frank Summers and Keenan Lewis in greener pastures. Apart from Shipley actually, who now resides in Baltimore.
The other two players from their draft class, namely Joe Burnett and Ra'Shon Harris crashed out of the league sometime ago.
This will not be remembered as the Steelers proudest moment, not by a long way, but at least there is the comforting irony that the book on the 2009 Steelers Draft closes with the exit of the their first and last pick. It is just a shame the book closed with a whimper and not with a roar.
